Setting up Private Practice

About the workshop

This six hour workshop is focused on helping you develop an understanding of the issues, skills required, challenges and potential pitfalls involved in setting up and running a successful private practice.

Who is it for?

The workshop is aimed at both counsellors and psychotherapists who are looking to start their own private practice or have already taken that step and would like to extend their understanding. Those applying must be qualified counsellors or psychotherapists with at least two year’s post qualification practice.

What will I do on this workshop?

The workshop will be a mix of didactic training, group work and discussions. There will be the opportunity to explore the practical, legal and ethical issues that need to be considered for private practice.

Topics covered will include:

– Reasons for wanting to go in to private practice.

– Where you might practice and the implications of that choice

– Financial matters such as insurance, public indemnity and client charges.

– Which client groups you might work with.

– How to look after yourself.

About the trainer

RAY BURNS is an accredited counsellor and supervisor and is a registered member of BACP. Ray has worked with addiction, offending behaviour, abuse and general counselling issues. He has been running his own private practice as an integrative counsellor and supervisor for at least 15 years. He also trains students to become counsellors up to Diploma level as one of the Cara tutors
