About the Course

In this course you will learn how to use listening and counselling skills for a variety of different contexts either in the workplace or in volunteering. You will learn practical skills and competencies to be able to use counselling skills ethically and safely to help others as part of the first stage in professional counselling training. You will also learn a great deal about yourself.

Who is it for?

This qualification is for:

• Those who are embarking on the first level of training as a professional counsellor;

• Those who want to learn counselling skills to help others in a variety of contexts and roles;

• Those who want to improve their professional and personal relationships as part of personal development.

What will I do on this course?

The course is ‘experiential’, this means you learn by ‘doing’. You will learn by working together with your peers, your tutors as well as in personal study.

The seven learning outcomes:

1. Use counselling skills ethically and safely

2. Establish and sustain the boundaries of the helping role

3. Work empathically as a helper

4. Focus on the helpee’s needs and concerns

5. Use self awareness in helping work

6. Use a range of counselling skills to facilitate the helping interaction

7. Use feedback and reflection to enhance counselling skills

How is the course assessed?

Students will experience a variety of assessment methods designed to support your experience on the course. These include journal writing, taped assignment, personal reflection, practical skills assessments and an externally marked examination paper.

Entry Requirements

There are no requirements for previous training, though you must be 19 years of age.

STUDY DETAILS: 28 x Thursdays 6pm to 9pm. 1 x Compulsory Saturday 9am to 3pm

TERM: 12th September 2024 to 15th May 2025. Saturday 9th November 2024

CPCAB EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT: 20th March 2024 for one week

FEE: £850 includes £189 CPCAB registration fee

Level 2 Fast Track – 90 hours

STUDY DETAILS: 17 x Wednesdays 9am to 3pm

TERM: 12th February 2025 to 2nd July 2025

CPCAB EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT: 3rd July 2025 for one week

Progression

The course achieves 17 learning Credits and is entered on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Progression can be to the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies.
